This symposium aims to bring together world wide expertise to address current issues related to masonry in seismic regions and green technology applications in masonry. Papers on research and practical applications to create opportunities for more effective and expanded use of masonry are solicited.

Since the Calgary Symposium in 1976, Canadian Masonry Symposia have been major international venues for the exchange of information on masonry science, engineering, architecture, construction, manufacturing, evaluation, and repair. The Department of Civil Engineering at McMaster University is pleased to host the 11th Canadian Masonry Symposium in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, May 31st to June 3rd 2009. In addition to the technical sessions, the Symposium will include educational workshops on the design of engineered masonry. Engineers, architects, contractors, manufacturers, planners, building officials, and researchers will all benefit from this opportunity to share their experiences and hear about new ideas. On behalf of the 11th Canadian Masonry Symposium committee and the Co-chair, I would like to extend a special invitation to our international colleagues. We plan to build on the strong foundation of the previous 10 Canadian Masonry Symposia as a premier international conference that supports and expands the exchange of new technical information and ideas for the betterment of masonry.
Symposium Chair,
Wael EL-Dakhakhni
